Today, Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili visited Pankisi. He was accompanied by United States and The European Union’s Ambassadors to Georgia and Georgian high officials who were in attendance.
They met with the locals, Council and the youth and discussed the main problems of the Gorge; unemployment, education, gasification and numerous issues of importance to the local community.
They have made comment that the situation in Pankisi Gorge is absolutely calm and the area is not a base of operations for ISIS fighters aiming at the territory of the Russian Federation as had been asserted by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov four days ago.
Kist people were glad to see their President and have discussed numerous problems with a hope that the Georgian Government will see fit to invest in jobs and infrastructure that can lift Pankisi out of economic helplessness and onto a track that Georgia as a Nation is forging, but as yet has been unable to achieve in Pankisi.
